I must confess I spent most of the last silent month going to movies so I can see the Star Wars Episode 1 trailer on the big screen, and the rest of the time I was playing Super Dodge Ball on my freind's NES, however some dedicated and talented people have sucked me back into the 'net with news that must be posted.

Check out Griph's 16 bit texture pack #1 - "a mix of industrial, dirty, metallic "base" textures with a slight Japanese influence, and a few more traditional wood, cloth, and dirt textures." - designed for a Half Life level, but suitable for other games that don't force you to use a global 256 color palette. Free texture collections are now also listed on the Free Models page.

Quake Army Knife (QuArK) version 5.9 with lighting in the OpenGL 3D views was released a while back. (I'm still trying to catch up on all of the discussions on the QuArK forums.)

Crystal Space beta 0.13 release 9 has just been released. There is now more documentation and a tutorial to help you get started creating your own Crystal Space games.

The OpenContent license allows you to release textures, models - or just about anything else that isn't executable - for use by any free or commercial project while protecting your work similar to the way the GPL license protects free software. This is the kind of license I like to use for my free content. (Sometimes artists prefer to allow only non-commercial use. Both non-commercial and OpenContent contributions are welcome here.)

WoldForge is an open-source (and open-content) massively multiplayer online role-playing game project.
